Glamorgan University threw away a 12-point lead in the BUSA Rugby League Premier Wales and West to draw 24 all with Bristol University.
On a sunny but cold November day in Bristol, the home side took an early 2-0 lead through a Dave Bohm penalty. Bristol could have increased their lead before the quarter hour but for a joint try saving tackle by Chris Combs and Neil Thomas on Bristol winger Chris Cocconier.
But it was Glamorgan who took a 6-2 lead on 16 minutes following Bristol’s error when the ball was kicked out on the full following the fifth tackle. Jason Tomlinson charged over from the resulting set and Coombs converted.
Bristol regained the lead less than five minutes later when Tom Curtis picked up a stray pass and ran the ball over. Bohm converted.
Glamorgan were fortunate not to go further behind after kicking the ball out of the full from kick-off. Bristol got close to the line but possession was regained following the fifth tackle.
But it was the visitors who went into half-time with a 12-8 advantage after coombs set up Tomlinson, running over for his second in an excellent move.
Bristol opened the second half in convincing fashion and were unlucky not to score early on following

James Gross’ 30-metre run. A fine passing move ended with Martin Klyn being tackled and Glamorgan regaining possession.
However, Bristol got the ball back straight away after Thomas was forced into touch. James Gross scored in the corner from the resulting scrum to level the scores.
Tomlinson completed his hat-trick for Glamorgan just four minutes later finishing off a fine passing move that involved Coombs and Ben Rawlings. He then got his and Glamorgan’s fourth straight from kick-off, running the ball in under the sticks. Coombs kept his 100% match conversion record to make the score 24-12.
Bristol fought their way back three minutes later when Christoph Harper ran through a gap in the Glamorgan defence left by a scrum to easily score. Adam Clarke’s conversion was given but there was some debate whether the ball passed through the sticks or went just wide.
Ten minutes from time, Bristol were level. From a high kick into the in-goal area, both sides scrambled for the ball. First to it was Bristol’s Graham Hargreaves who touched down. Clarke converted to earn Bristol a point.
