Blackwood Bulldogs held off a spirited second half come back from the Cardiff Demons to open their season with a win. An early try from Gerwyn Price, influential throughout, was followed up when centre Gareth Price finished under the posts from a Jeremy Lloyd pass. Lloyd who kicked three goals, repeatedly tested the Cardiff defense along with his halfback partner. Blackwood scored again just before the break, Gavin Bassett crossing for a 14-0 lead at half time.

scored what appeared to be a consolation when he scored on the right from a kick which caused confusion in the Blackwood defense. An immediate reply from Blackwoods Byron Williams made the score 26-4 with just over twenty minutes left. The Cardiff comeback ensued, with tries from Graham Hughes and Andrew Bradshaw narrowing the gap to ten points. However, the comeback came too late, and despite a late try in the corner from Matt Morrissey just before full time Blackwood Bulldogs held on to record a win in their opening game of the season.
