Newport Titans ground out a hard fought 30-12 win against a spirited Neath Port Talbot Steelers at Green Stars RFC to take them to the top of the Welsh Conference.

Newport took an early lead with a try from Kirk Johnson and was quickly

followed up with a brace from Tyrone Mahoney.  Things became more physical as the pace picked up with Newport capitalising on the penalties with a drive over the line from John Bowd.  Ross Palmer converted two bringing the half time score to 0-20.

The second half was a far more even affair; Chris Vitalini ran in to the corner to extend the lead before Chris Cornelius got the Steelers on the scoreboard. This was quickly followed with the Steelers second try from Rhodri Wilson with both tries being converted by Chris Coombes.

Newport had the last say in the scoring with Ross Jones running in with the conversion from Ross Palmer.
