Valley Miners 22 Demons 48

Cardiff  enter shield play offs on a high
Cardiff stand-off Gareth Jones scored two fine tries and kicked eight conversions out of eight as the Demons closed out the regular season with a 48-22 victory over Swansea Valley.

Cardiff raced out to a 12-0 lead within seven minutes through two Pat Howell tries, but saw the Miners hit back through Andrew Lustig. John Darcy extended the lead through a thirteenth minute try set up by Demons Academy graduate Oliver Hughes, but Swansea winger Andrew Spratt reduced the half-time deficit to 18-10 with a try converted by Simon Bevan.

Swansea were first out of the blocks in the second half, Spratt touching down for his second try on 44 minutes after pouncing on a loose ball following a kick through the middle. Gareth Jones went
in under the posts five minutes later, but Swansea closed the gap to just two points when Chris Roets ran 60 yards down the left wing for a breakaway try.

However, it was the Demons who responded better to the pressures of the last 20 minutes, and after Gareth Jones went in for his second short-range try on 63 minutes, there was no looking back. Darren White added two further tries and the final score came through Sam Dimmock - another graduate from the

Demons academy. The Demons emerge from the regular season with seven points and must go into next week's playoff against the Cougars a more confident side after two straight wins.
