Valley Cougars 38 Valley Miners 18
Valley Cougars claim hard fought win
In the closest match of the day, last year's bottom two sides entertained the crowd with a thrilling see-saw spectacle.

The match was closer than the 38-18 score line suggests. In fact, just a conversion separated the sides at half-time.

Cougars were first on the board in the 10th minute, Neil Edwards with a try in the corner. Steve John equalised five minutes later, forcing his way through the strong home defence.

Cougars made it 8-4 after Adrian Owen brushed off three defenders to ground before Scott Cole brought things level again for the Swansea.

David Andrews gave the Cougars the lead for the third time, placing the ball under the posts after a 40 metre run, converting

his own try, but Swansea hit back in injury time as Christian Roets barged through making the score back to 14-12 in favour of the Cougars.

The Miners took the lead for the first and only time in the game in the 54th minute. Gethin Daniels with a try under the posts and Simon Bevan converting.

Their lead lasted for little more than two minutes as Mukeseli Jones scored the try of the match, weaving through the defence to level the scores.

New signing from Newport, Jimmy Dingle gave them the lead five minutes later before tries from Robert James and Rhodri Morris (2) put the score out of Swansea's reach. Roets' 60 metre run to the line in the last minute was just a consolation for the Miners.
