Demons 21 Fighting Irish 47

A magnificent final quarter from the Fighting Irish, which brought them 25 unanswered points despite being down to 12 men, sees them go to Bridgend next week in what should be a titanic encounter in the Principality.

The Demons, desperate for another crack at the Blue Bulls, had begun well and took a 6-0 lead through a ninth minute try by Ross Olney.
Gareth Jones added a field goal two minutes later but the Fighting Irish hit back with a fine try in the left corner by Richard Lewis, Mike Healy, who went on to kick seven out of eight goal, superbly adding the conversion.

The visitors looked to be in trouble when Cardiff took advantage of Richard Hibbard's dismissal with stand-off Gareth Jones sprinting 30 metres for a try two minutes later to establish a 13-6 lead.
But three tries before half-time, two from winger Chris Perry and one from hooker Scott O'Kelly gave Aberavon a 22-17 advantage at the break, the Demons only other points of the half coming when Glen Phillips just managed to get the ball down before touching the corner flag.

Cardiff brought the score back to a one point deficit in the 44th minute when Mark Bow offloaded to Jamie Iles for a try in the corner but after a period of fiercely contested play it was Aberavon's Richard Morris who broke the deadlock, using his size and fitness to power thirty metres through the Demons' defence for an excellent score.

A Healy field goal pushed the Irish lead to eight points and Aberavon thought they had sealed the game soon after only for a length of the field move to be cancelled out for a forward pass.

The clincher came in the 69th minute when Chris Perry put Fighting Irish full-back Sean O'Brien through and Aberavon sealed a famous victory with a second Richard Morris touchdown and a late try from second row Darren Ryan adding to the visitor’s joy.

Aberavon coach Danny Sheehy commented, "That was the toughest game we've had to face here this season, especially in the conditions. But we've come through and we're all up for the Bridgend game on Thursday night."
