Titans 80 Valley Cougars 4
Titans v Cougars

Newport Titans produced a big score against an understrength Valley Cougars side running in 15 tries, many of them long range efforts, to win 80-4. The Titans were 70-0 up before Rhodri Morris scored the Cougars’ only try.

Man of the match Morgan Lovell led the way with a first half hat-trick, the first after only a minute as he went through from kick-off. Anthony Lott, Neil McKimm

and John Bowd also went over in the first period to give the Titans a 32-0 half-time lead.

The Titans ran riot in the second half as the Cougars, who were at times down to 12 men due to injuries, stood no chance against their more experienced counterparts. Martin Cawley ran in their seventh try not long into the first half while further scores from Craig Drew (2), Ben Morris, Earl Palmer, Mark Wheeler, Lee Meredith, Kirk Johnson and another from Cawley added to the Cougars’ misery. Neil McKimm kicked nine conversions and Earl Palmer added one of his own.

The Cougars expect to have many players, including Pontypridd RFC’s Dale McIntosh, back for next week’s home clash against Blackwood Bulldogs.
