Titans 52 Demons 10
Newport announced their arrival as a serious force in the Welsh Conference with this ten try rout of local rivals Cardiff Demons. The Titans took twenty five minutes to get on the scoreboard but once they got going the Demons had no answer to their direct style of rugby league.

Cardiff began well with Rhodri Thomas scoring on a powerful twenty yard run down the left wing. The Demons continued to dominate the early exchanges but suffered a major setback when stand off Gareth Jones was taken off after a clash of heads. On twenty five minutes Newport mounted their first serious assault on the Demons line resulting in Kirk Johnson's breakaway try under the posts. Four minutes later Ben Morris added Newport's second and the Titans held their 12-6 lead up to the break.

Newport stamped their authority on the second half virtually from the kick off, when John Griffiths raced on to a kick from twenty yards out. Neil McKinn ran

through the middle to put Newport 22-6 up and there was no way back for the Demons. The Titans added further tries from Kirk Johnson, Neil McKinn and Ross Palmer before Sean Gilbertson scored a consolation try for Cardiff. In the last five minutes the Titans touched down twice more through Palmer and Craig Drew, and as the Demons besieged their line in the dying seconds, Owen Jones intercepted and ran back the length of the field to give Newport a 52-10 win.

For the Demons it was the heaviest defeat since losing at Hemel Stags two years ago, and the men from Taffs Well have a lot to think about before their next match at home to Swansea Valley on Saturday.

Newport: Tries Johnson (2), McKinn (2), Ross Palmer, Morris, Griffiths, Drew, Jones O. Goals: Earl Palmer (4), Mckinn (2)
Cardiff: Tries Thomas, Gilbertson. Goals Gareth Jones.
