One week after the announcement of Celtic Crusaders gaining their Super League licence a further accolade has been obtained by Wales Rugby League in that one of their Match Officials, Darren Scott, has been appointed to Referee the RLEF European Nations Shield game between Germany and the Czech Republic in Karlsruhe this Saturday.
Darren hasn’t been able to officiate as much this season as in previous ones due to work commitments but has been very busy in setting up the recent junior game in St Davids and helping out with some coaching at Abertyswyth University. He said, ‘I am not sure what sort of standard the game will be but I know it will be very competitive, I have been training hard

and have learnt some words of German and Czech to help me get by, it will be a fantastic occasion and I can’t wait for theweekend to come, it is great for the Wales Match Officials Society to have the honour of providing the Referee. Thanks to Rugby League Match Officials Development Officer Steve Davis for the appointment and recognition of what we are doing in Wales.’
Secretary of the Society, Alan Smith, said ‘We are proud of what the Society has achieved in it’s short existence and Darren going to Germany is a fantastic achievement. Hopefully this will inspire more people to become Match Officials as next year we will need people to take up the whistle as I am sure there is going to be a huge surge of interest in people wanting to play at both senior and junior level and therefore more games to cover.
We recently held a very successful course for new Officials in Cardiff and will soon be holding more, details will appear on the website.’
